UPPER BIG WATER TRAIL HEAD

 |
| Glaciers dramatically widened Mill Creek Canyon above Upper Big Water, about 7,600 ft. (2,317 m.) elevation; as glaciers retreated they left glacial moraines, Qg. Several glaciers also left moraines, Qg, downcanyon on the south slope from Upper Big Water to Alexander Basin, about 7,080 ft. (2,158 m.) elevation. There is a very low-elevation glacial moraine, Qg, at the mouth of Thaynes canyon, 5,760 ft. (1,756 m.) Thaynes. The glaciers probably occupied the canyon around 18,000 years ago, a local glacial maximum advance.
