The Horizon mine was originally developed by Lodestar Energy in 2000 and was reopened late 2003 by Hidden Splendor Resources. The mine is designed to produce about 500,000 tons per year but is having difficulty operating due to the many faults and soft roof conditions. The Horizon mine produces coal from the Hiawatha seam.
